 Before knowing the causes of pollution first of all we need to know what are pollutants.

 Pollutants are those harmful substance which are released in our natural environment and adversely effect our lives. pollution is the existence of any harmful substance in air , water , soil , or food which risks the health of human, animal and plant life. Pollution is not only caused by man (artificially) but it can occur naturally .  Pollution often results to some harmful and very hazardous Side effects. Pollutants like smoke from chimneys and drainage from industries , but it can also arise from street light or the noise from traffic which can impact our life adversely.

TYPES OF POLLUTANTS:

• Primary pollutant -A primary pollutant can be described as the pollutant which is directly released in our environment and causes adverse effect on nature and population.
• Secondary pollutant- a secondary pollutant is not directly emitted but when two or more than two primary pollutant reacts in atmosphere they form secondary pollutant  . it is more harmful than primary pollutants.

Causes of Pollution:

when we talk about the causes of pollution firstly we have to enlist the activities and reaction which occur everyday and cause pollution . as we have clearly mentioned that not only manmade activities can cause pollution naturally occuring process too can be responsible for this pollution. there is not a specific pollution or pollutant that we encounter everyday but a series of pollutants are there in our environment which causes a list and different types of pollutions. 

There are lot of pollution causing element which are emitted in our environment and make it polluted.

• The major causes of air pollution is the smoke from vehicles, furnance chimneys of industries and burning of fossil fuels such as coal , petroleum to produce energy. Ammonia is most hazardous gases in the atmosphere which is a common byproduct of agricultural activities. Methane is green house gas which is very harmful for our environment. the use of chemical fertilizers in agricultural field emit harmful gases that makes the air polluted.
• The major causes of water pollution is the discharge of untreated and heavy metals waste , fertilizers, insecticides directly into the water bodies. The leakage from sewer lines and accidental oil leakage , oil spills  can cause harm to our water bodies.
• Nuclear waste disposal ,overcrowded landfill , deforestation and soil erosion are major cause of land pollution.
•  Noise pollution can also be caused when high intensity sound exposed in environment. 
• spillage of radioactive chemicals , nuclear accidents , uses of radioisotopes are major cause of radioactive pollution. etc....

and there are many more causes that can effect our environment and cause pollution and can effect our lives adversely.

Effects:

Pollution has a very negative effect on not only nature but on human health too. There are some long term effects that have become problems that seems difficult to solve.

• Global warming: This is the most worrying effect for our environment. global warming is caused by green house effect which is produced by  high emission of methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
• Climate change
• acid rain
• Extinction of animal species
• Respiratory health problems  :It is the most obvious and worrying effect for humans .pollution can cause allergies like cough , asthma and can cause severe disease like cancer. etc.. and many more worse effect can be seen if this type of situation continues.
